The Maracaibo Lake; All The Thunder Gives a Huge Headache

From a mile away, you can feel the static of the Guinness Book of World Records winner for “highest concentration of lighting”; the Maracaibo Lake

Imagine seeing 28 flashes of lighting every minute, in other words, imagine seeing 250 flashes of lighting per square kilometre every year. Maracaibo Lake, the Beacon of Maracaibo is the largest lake in South America. The second oldest lake in history gets 260 of 365 days as storm days. Located near the equator, this lake is officially the most electrifying place on Earth. If you wish to see this crystal lake, I recommend you wait for October, at the peak of the wet season. As a project from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM), meteorology can back up this information. If you wish to learn more, you are welcome to read BBC Earth writer Ms. Ella Davis’ article on the lake including a more detailed explanation including science, facts, and more (http://www.bbc.com/earth/story/20150810-the-most-electric-place-on-earth).
