             “You did a wonderful job. I appreciate your talent and skill. Thank you for a delightful evening.” stated Dr. Rosie in an email sent after the annual Winter Concert on December 2nd. 8th grade and High School were part of the show as they sang their songs and played their instruments very well for only having 1 year of training. Ms. McFaul encourages her students to have more independence in the musical training and they did a very good job. The 8th grade Choir class sang “Jingle Bells” and “Fuego al Cañon” which is a traditional Venezuelan song. The 8th grade band class was divided into several groups and played different songs. One of the songs was Ancient Carol. High school Choir class sang “Last Christmas” which is a British song by “Wham!”. Ms. McFaul and Mr. Zambrano put a lot of effort into the Winter Concert and their hard-work payed off well!

The Mysterious Game of Chess

I have one queen, you have a bishop, try to checkmate me before it’s too late.

Chess is a two player board game played on a chessboard. It can be played almost everywhere, from parks to online, chess can be played almost wherever you want. The purpose is to “checkmate” the king by making it impossible for it to move without dying in the 64-square board. There are 16 pieces which are the same for both players, certain pieces can only move in certain ways. Chess is believed to be originated from India, but it is played all around the world.

Mr.Perez has been playing chess ever since he was little, when his uncle gave him his very own chess set for Christmas. He has been in chess clubs and tournaments in a variety of cities, he played for a chess club, participating in a Chess League. For the last three years Escuela Bella Vista has hosted a chess tournament for students. Mr. Perez hopes to be able to give more time to students to play their match considering they have 20-25 minutes per match. There are plenty of great chess students and as Mr.Perez said, “there is a pure love for this amazing and mysterious game”. Keep practicing and don’t forget, there will be at least one tournament per year.

Classcraft is a role playing game designed to get students engaged in the classroom. It improves student behavior, it motivates the students and teaches meaningful collaboration. About a month and a half ago, Ms. Dana started using a new teaching technique for her students. She saw her students were having trouble following routines and procedures. She has seen improvements in her students’ behavior considering how they follow the rules without having to verbally remind them repeatedly. Many students have even downloaded the Classcraft app on their smartphones, they check the app with frequency. She first heard of Classcraft by watching the Escuela Bella Vista Newspaper team practice it in the library. She definitely recommends other teachers to start using the game and is very excited to start next year with the exciting game of Classcraft.

In this film that is the continuation of Mocking-jay part 1, Katniss Everdeenm now fully knows that the District are no longer just for survival, they are  the future. Now, that the nation of Panem is in full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends including Gale, Finnick, and Peeta, Katmiss goes off mission, using the unit from District 13, and risking their lives to stage a murder attempt on President Snow who is even more obsessed with destroying her.

Final Stress Week.

                                    

The final exams are finally here. A lot of people are stressed and worried about the results they think they are going to achieve. These exams are very important for their semester grades, and students have studied and studied in order to achieve a very good mark. Dr. Rosie has also remind us constantly that these exams are mandatory, and they need to come and do them. These exams will begin on December 9, and will end on December 10th. We wish you the best of luck, and hope that you achieve your goal of receiving a very good grade.

Golden Avalanche

The Golden State Warriors have reached an incredible 26-0 winning streak.

The Golden State Warriors have completed a perfect streak of twenty six wins and zero losses. After all those matches won, the Golden State Warriors have accomplished the record of the best start in a NBA season. Now the team is now looking for the best winning streak in the NBA history. To accomplish their goal, they must win seven more games. The Los Angeles Lakers have won thirty three games and the Miami Heat have won twenty seven games. Most of the professionals sports analysts say that Golden State have a very high chance of reaching thirty three wins and make history. All of the Golden State Warriors Fans are really excited to see their team make history and be remembered as one of the greatest.

           Last Monday and Tuesday, the EBV Yearbook Team organized the annual Picture Day! Instead of hiring a professional photographer to take the pictures, the staff got even more creative and decided to take the pictures themselves. Another thing they changed from last year was that instead of taking the pictures sitting down, they took them standing up. On Monday, lower elementary and some teachers took the pictures. On Tuesday, upper elementary and all middle school and high school took the pictures. The teachers finished taking their shots Monday and Tuesday after-school. The YBK Team put on music while they organized all the students in alphabetic order. This year’s Picture Day was very different from others, but it was a huge success!

New Leaders

The National Honor Society at Escuela Bella Vista is an organization for the students that have excelled in their studies and show qualities of leadership. In order to be part of this elite society, you must have certain qualities:, leadership, service, and character.

        This group is runned by four advisors: Ms. Guerra, Ms. Possamai, Ms. Lia, and Mr. Quintero. In addition, there are 17 students and 5 of them are officers. In order to choose officers, the people in the society have to vote. A student can run for president,  vice-president, secretary, treasurer, or historian. According to an email Ms. Guerra sent to the NHS/NJHS students this are the jobs each position occupies:

“It shall be the duty of the president to preside over the meeting of the meetings of the chapter and the induction ceremony. The president must meet with the advisers prior to every NHS meeting to prepare agenda. The vice-president shall fill the chair of the president in their absence. The vice-president must meet with advisers prior to every NHS meeting to prepare agenda. The secretary shall keep the minutes of meetings and activity attendance records. The secretary shall publish the chapter projects in a positive manner. The treasurer shall receive and disburse all funds of the chapter and shall keep an accurate account of receipts and disbursements in accordance with school regulations. The treasurer is responsible for maintaining NHS project cost records. The historian shall record the chapter activities by assembling a scrapbook, which is to be presented at the May general meeting. The historian is responsible for photographing NHS activities.”

A day of Thanks

        Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday of giving thanks for all of your blessings and for life. Many families celebrate it by making a special meal. At Escuela Bella Vista, teachers and students celebrate this annual feast. On November 25 2015, parents, students, teachers, and staff members had a Thanksgiving Lunch.

        According to an email Dr. Rosie sent this is her perspective towards this luncheon: “All EBV staff, students, and community will be involved in this event. This school wide annual event brings the EBV community together to celebrate "gratitude". By supporting this event, we exhibit the beliefs and core values that make us a united community. The event is sponsored by the PTSA. This year the luncheon will be held on Wednesday, November 25th, beginning at 11:00 am. Lunch will be offered in different areas of the school to accommodate all families who choose to participate.”

When you are angry don't you want to wreck and destroy everything? Well, the book Wreck This Journal by Keri Smith suits all your needs. This awesome book will suffer while you complete it. According to Keri Smith, the author, her books are a ‘direct confrontation with the unknown’. “What happens when I try “this”? A direct confrontation with the UNKNOWN. It is such a great metaphor for life because none of us truly know where we are headed. We can try to control it but at a deep level we aren’t ever really in control.” She revealed in an interview with Dan Brodnitz.

3rd Grade's Night Time Adventure

This November 20th, 3rd grade had a  SLUMBER PARTY celebrating and having a fun party full of surprises party where all you could see was laughter and pijamas. This amazing event took place in the cafeteria and the auditorium and was organized by 3rd grade teachers to improve love for reading and many other things that will help students in the future.

Every year 3rd Grade teachers organize an EBV Slumber Party for all children in 3rd grade.This year it was on November the 20th and everything started at 6pm when children with their parents went to the classroom; then they moved to the area of ​​the new cafeteria and had a dinner together: An exquisite Christmas dish in which everyone had the option of eating lasagna or hallacas. After, the kids with their parents passed to center outside area of the cafeteria for the lighting of the Christmas lights previous words of thanks from one of the teachers. Around 7:45 parents went with their children to the auditorium to accommodate and install, then they had to say bye and leave so the kids could start with the games. Between 8 and 9 pm it was time to tell stories in a special place that was set for fun storytelling! At 9 pm it was time for the Talent Show and improvised dances where many children stopped caring about how they looked and performed.They let out the artist inside! Then from 10 pm to 11 pm was time time to play with their electronic devices and after watch a funny movie. However, sadly, at 1 am it was time to turn off the lights until the new dawn. At 7am everyone waked up and gathered his or her belongings, had breakfast and then waited for their parents.This activity was very exciting for most children, but many others were scared to sleep in school and leave their home.The strategy that the school used was a very good idea according to parents because they said that it “will emotionally prepare children for sleepovers, making them feel emotional independence, empathy and a sense of the community at the school environment with their teachers and school friends.” By the comments made from children in previous years this "Slumber Party" was better than ever!

The Giver; a hidden world

The Giver by Lois Lowry takes place on a futuristic world in which everything is perfect. Society has been taken away all the emotions and colors, the ones felt are all fake instead of real. Jonas is a twelve year-old boy who has the ability to see beyond. He can see and feel everything others cannot. However he is to discover that upon his society he is not the only one. In their society, they are assigned everything they need, but things are also taken away. They have assigned clothes, children, and even spouses. There is no choice.

When kids turn twelve they are assigned a job depending on what are they good at. He is assigned the most important job in the community: The job of The Receiver of Memory. During his job, Jonas meets The Giver, the person that will explain everything and give him all the memories passed from generation to generation. He is forced to keep in secret all the truths about their society. Of how release is death, and the basic emotions such as true love, or true anger. All kept away, Jonas will see how he can reveal the world to all. 

Outstanding Celebration in V.E

         This November 18 E.B.V was closed for a special and unique holiday celebrated in Venezuela called "La Feria de La Chinita".This Wednesday students didn't have to go to school so they got to do many other activities outside and enjoy the holiday.

The ¨Bella Vista School¨ was closed on November 18, for a special holiday in the City of Maracaibo, Estado Zulia . t is a special day in commemoration of  “La Feria de la Chinita. Everything started in 1709, an old women called Eleida Araujo was near the lake washing her clothes in the border of the lake when she saw a small piece of wood that she liked and used it to cover a jar she had with water. After a few days, on the 18th of  November 1709 the old woman heard some knocks, and when she looked she saw the piece of wood illuminated with image of the Virgin Mary. When she saw that she immediately went outside and ran over the street screaming ¨miracle, miracle!¨ Because of that, everyone in the town came to see it! This event has been celebrated by people generation after generation to remember the origin of  “La Feria de la Chinita”. From this moment the fair start to be a tradition in the city. With a big menu for the celebration, for example the descent of the Virgin, the ignition of the lights in Bella Vista, the Election of the queen of the fair, and more activities to share in family.  

          

         

Five Nights at Freddy's World

Five nights at freddy's 1, 2, 3 and 4 are terrifying games that involved giant evil animatronics coming to kill you at night. There was a massive story behind it and an amazing feeling of suspense in these games. With the new installment, multiple surprises were given until one massive one blew the mind of anybody who had a minor interest in the game. It is now, cute?

Scott Cawthon (The owner of the games) Released a trailer of a new game called “Five Nights at Freddy’s World” showing how this will be a game somewhat like Pokemon except the animatronics in the previous games are the Pokemon. We saw how more than 30 different animatronics will be used in the game. It is unknown if there will be an actual story behind it but evidence points to a yes. Each animatronic seems to have its own characteristics and will have different moves. Scott Cawthon is also proving multiple theories about the game where some animatronics that were unknown to exist are now true. Many people are asking if kids will be able to play it. The real question is, will you?

Squid Stories

Tell me, do you like turning into a squid? Do you like shooting ink everywhere and making a complete mess of things? Do you like online multiplayer battles? Then Splatoon is just for you.

Splatoon is a cartoon multiplayer Wii U game that revolves around spraying ink around a course and shooting other people with the ink. There are different game modes that change the game drastically. There are custom weapons and accessories that can boost your gameplay. Did I forget to mention you have to defeat a giant evil DJ octopus? You have to turn into a squid to fill your ink tank. It is extremely popular and has hundreds of great reviews. If you don't have this game already, I suggest you do. You will smile more than when you find out that you won the game already.

Is change good or bad?

Mauricio Macri won the Argentine presidency on November 20th, marking the first change of government in 12 years.

  As of Sunday November 20th Mauricio Macri former mayor of Buenos Aires; became the President of Argentina winning with less than a 3% majority of the votes. The two candidates were Mauricio Macri and Daniel Sciolio of the Peronist Victory Front.

   The question everybody was asking after the election: Will Macri be able to complete his presidential period? If he does complete his 4 years as president Macri would be the first outside of the dictatorship era without being a member of the Peronist party to complete his period of presidency, according to the Guardian. But to achieve this he would have to rapidly come to peace with trade unions, build a coalition or alliance and get the economy back on track. According to the guardian Macri has promised to strengthen institutions, introduce pro-business policies, cut deals with foreign creditors and reestablish Argentina’s foreign laws with Venezuela, Iran and the United States, says CNN.

ISIS set suicide bombs in France that killed 129 people and left many more injured.

   November 13th of 2015 was a day. A terrible day for the people in the city of Paris. On this date the terrorist group known by the name of ISIS dropped three suicide bombers on the State of France. These attacks murdered 129 people and left many more injured. After continuous research the police and investigators concluded the mastermind or main terrorist behind these attacks was named Abelhamid Abaaoud. These attacks were controversial all around the world causing debates about the possibility of the third world war. So ISIS did it again. The group managed to kill people, cause controversy and lie right to our faces about their purpose.

Martian: out of this world!

One of the best movie of the year! It deserves it's spot ring next to Gravity thanks to its breathtaking visuals, funny pirate jokes and of course Matt Damon. To start off this rollercoaster of emotions the movie is centered mainly in survival. Matt Damon playing the role of a young astronaut named Mark Watney got stuck on mars after his crewmates thought he was dead. In the end, who could blame them? After all he was lucky to survive a storm, get stabbed by broken tube and had to ration extreme little food. With a dangerous environment this movie thrills with the possibility of death every second. Its like when you are watching The Walking Dead on you computer and have 1% of battery left: you want to keep watching and hope for the best: not to die. Not only is the plot good, the movie hilarious and fun to watch. This is one of the best movie you might ever watch and deserves a 8.5 out of 10.

Top ten list of worst hoxes in internet history (or a at least as old as I could find)

10: Justin Bieber saves a Russian man from a bear: This one is in the list not because it fooled many people like the other in this list, but because the idea that Justin Bieber fighting a bear: the biggest wimp in the internet fought a bear, it's laughable and it's overall stupid.

9: A disfigured 3-year-old was kicked out of a Mississippi KFC: this hoax made a KFC in  Mississippi completely desolated for 3 day in demand for equality. A poor family told the hoax to get attention. They said “that they were asked to leave a KFC franchise because their daughter’s facial scarring “scared” other customers”. A police research uncovered the lie “there is no evidence that they were even in the building that day”, Unfortunately the girl's face was really disfigured and KFC did not only avoided charges but gave them 30,000 dollars to give the small girl a face surgery. This hoax did end with a happy ending.  

8: Earth will suffer six days of “total darkness”: A fake article of a bad news source. You might believe people might think twice before believing this, but no. A huge lot of people thought that in 2014 there was going to be 6 day of complete darkness thanks to a solar storm. It was a really obvious and stupid lie that fooled half America.

7: The Elusive Northwest Tree-Dwelling Octopus: This was a prank that 3 teenage boy told to get attention. The hoax consists of a specie called Elusive Northwest Tree-Dwelling Octopus which was supposedly to be a three climb, frog eating, air berthing octopus…. It was a lie. Duh!

6: Zionist Protocols: Now it's really getting interesting. You might have thought that Adolf Hitler was a sicko. If you want proof look all he did to the Jewish people. Well, this hoax will prove you wrong because, according to it, a document was found in Russia containing the plans of a world domination lead by the Jewish people. It was, of course, a lie.

5: Crop Circles: You know when you turn on your TV and you want to watch a movie with a friend, you scroll down a few channels and find an Aliens movie, but in the movie you see some weird circles on the fields and some cow and you friend says “this is a classic”. Well, the classic begun here. One of the biggest hoaxes comes in the form of holes in a field that make it look like a alien sing but no… just no.

4: Mermaids: a man claimed to have captured a mermaid, but like the rest of the hoaxes in this list it was a fat lie. Actually this was about a CGI project where the men who told the hoax were trying to create a half monkey half fish. I guess that need some work if it looked like a mermaid.

3: Microsoft bought the catholic church: The catholic church, a place where you can ask god the forgiveness for your sins... and now you can also buy the new XBOX ONE, AMEN! To start it seems the people in this time where all crazy, if Microsoft bought the catholic church they will spend a lot of money in pest control because it will have a lot of bugs. If you are one of the ones who think the church was bad before, wait until it runs on windows.

2: Aliens: An alien body was found and given to a biologist to be inspected. The biologist took a picture and sent it by mail to a friend that later post it on the internet, or so will the picture make you believe. The reason this got so high up is because the photo looked extremely real and people were still asking if it was real even after the photo was confirmed to be fake, or so the US government wants you to believe.

1: The Loch Ness Monster “Surgeon’s Photo”: this got to the first place for 3 reasons: number one, it's was definitely the most disappointing one. Why would you not want the Loch Ness Monster to be real? Number two, the picture was given by a reliable source and is as real as it can be. And number three: the man who did this had the world fooled for 64 years and his final word where “The picture is fake, I got you all”.
