Mixed Up Fairy Tales - Elementary Play

On Thursday, May 19 the elementary students had their play which was a total success. The play was directed by Mrs. Moran and Mrs. Frayne, they showed how proud they were of all the students that participated in the play and also their appreciation towards the teachers that participated in the play. The play was about the creators of certain fairy tales (three little pigs, red riding hood, Goldilocks and the three bears) having a dream in which fairy tales combined. During the play the audience was very respectful and they enjoyed the play a lot. The students had a lot of fun participating in the play and they are are hoping to participate in it again next year.

Start your countdown! International day is closer than it appears!

2016 international day is this Saturday March 11!!! All middle school has already presented their projects. They had to teach little kids about a variety of countries, their issues, animals and even tall tales. Isn't that cute!!?? Lil' first graders were amazed by how many animals there were in the world and of how many global issues people around the world struggle with. But they also have something prepared for us!! Their international day dances, imagine cute elementary kids performing dances from different cultures. We have a looooootttt of diversity in EBV. So prepare your body to wake up be here at school by 8 am on Saturday, and prepare your minds to learn from elementary kids about cultures around the world.

A Love Themed Sale

PTSA celebrated valentine's day with everybody on February 11. They celebrated and gathered money with a bake sale that took place at the tunnel towards the field at EBV.

Valentine's day was Celebrated at EBV with a bake sale. In the bake sale they sold lots of things such as Flowers (roses), cupcakes, cookies, bracelets, tea (bottled) and “Panela con Limon”. Everything turned out great although by lunch time they had already runned out of flowers and the bracelets which were sold quickly because many people wanted them. Even though other things weren't sold as quick, everything except some bottles of tea were sold by the end of the day; which showed the success of the event. For most people this day was very fun and full of surprises while getting roses and other things as presents from others and some were just happy for giving presents and showing their appreciation towards others. A lot of people enjoyed the treats and the gifts from the bake sale and now they are hopping it will happen again because they want another bake sale, specially from PTSA. The only thing they want more than an ordinary bake sale is another “Love themed sale”.

3rd Grade's Night Time Adventure

This November 20th, 3rd grade had a  SLUMBER PARTY celebrating and having a fun party full of surprises party where all you could see was laughter and pijamas. This amazing event took place in the cafeteria and the auditorium and was organized by 3rd grade teachers to improve love for reading and many other things that will help students in the future.

Every year 3rd Grade teachers organize an EBV Slumber Party for all children in 3rd grade.This year it was on November the 20th and everything started at 6pm when children with their parents went to the classroom; then they moved to the area of ​​the new cafeteria and had a dinner together: An exquisite Christmas dish in which everyone had the option of eating lasagna or hallacas. After, the kids with their parents passed to center outside area of the cafeteria for the lighting of the Christmas lights previous words of thanks from one of the teachers. Around 7:45 parents went with their children to the auditorium to accommodate and install, then they had to say bye and leave so the kids could start with the games. Between 8 and 9 pm it was time to tell stories in a special place that was set for fun storytelling! At 9 pm it was time for the Talent Show and improvised dances where many children stopped caring about how they looked and performed.They let out the artist inside! Then from 10 pm to 11 pm was time time to play with their electronic devices and after watch a funny movie. However, sadly, at 1 am it was time to turn off the lights until the new dawn. At 7am everyone waked up and gathered his or her belongings, had breakfast and then waited for their parents.This activity was very exciting for most children, but many others were scared to sleep in school and leave their home.The strategy that the school used was a very good idea according to parents because they said that it “will emotionally prepare children for sleepovers, making them feel emotional independence, empathy and a sense of the community at the school environment with their teachers and school friends.” By the comments made from children in previous years this "Slumber Party" was better than ever!

Outstanding Celebration in V.E

         This November 18 E.B.V was closed for a special and unique holiday celebrated in Venezuela called "La Feria de La Chinita".This Wednesday students didn't have to go to school so they got to do many other activities outside and enjoy the holiday.

The ¨Bella Vista School¨ was closed on November 18, for a special holiday in the City of Maracaibo, Estado Zulia . t is a special day in commemoration of  “La Feria de la Chinita. Everything started in 1709, an old women called Eleida Araujo was near the lake washing her clothes in the border of the lake when she saw a small piece of wood that she liked and used it to cover a jar she had with water. After a few days, on the 18th of  November 1709 the old woman heard some knocks, and when she looked she saw the piece of wood illuminated with image of the Virgin Mary. When she saw that she immediately went outside and ran over the street screaming ¨miracle, miracle!¨ Because of that, everyone in the town came to see it! This event has been celebrated by people generation after generation to remember the origin of  “La Feria de la Chinita”. From this moment the fair start to be a tradition in the city. With a big menu for the celebration, for example the descent of the Virgin, the ignition of the lights in Bella Vista, the Election of the queen of the fair, and more activities to share in family.  

          

         

EBV’s Mad Scientist!

    The mad scientist party at EBV has been going on for 2 years counting this one which was in October by Mr.Anderson and Ms. Majerus for the 4th graders

The “Mad Scientist Party” begun when Mr.Anderson and Ms. Majerus trying to make something fun for Halloween but not just a typically party so,  thought of a party that Ms. Majerus had done before and noticed the kids have loved. They then decided to make it in E.B.V.! It started last year but it only lasted forty five minutes so this year they decided to make it bigger and better with new ideas from past experiences! For the party Ms. Lewensky and Mr.Anderson came up with 6 experiments for the students and made a booklet that they filled out while making them think about the scientific process. In total they had 6 experiments: 3 experiments in one of the fourth grade classrooms, three in the other. And in the last room, they had all special treats to celebrate the end of the event on October. The most popular experiments were: walking on eggs without them breaking them, the milk/soap/food coloring which created great color displays, microwaving a bar of soap which grew depending the time it was in the microwave and the mint and soda experiment which made the soda bottles blow up! The event was a great success, it lasted one hour and forty five minutes, and everyone enjoyed it with a  smile. The “Mad Scientist Party has just turned into a new tradition in fourth grade!

Trick or Treat E.B.V!

Escuela Bella vista Organized a Halloween party on October 30 at the school. There were different games made by E.B.V teachers and students! Treats that were like a magnet to kids! And a haunted house to which many people ended up frightened!

Halloween was celebrated at Escuela Bella Vista with a ton of costumes and a ton of people having a great time! With so many treats kids were running all over the place trying to win as much candy as possible! They even repeated some games to get more candy and rewards! The most popular thing was the haunted house which had a lot of people waiting in the line because only three people were allowed in each time. But the eleventh graders got to make the line fast and the haunted house really scary. It even made some kids cry! Most people that went said that it was a lot better than the past years so more people enjoyed the party more this time. In conclusion the Halloween party was great and EBV is ready for the next Halloween!

Dungeon complete

Last week the D&D ( dungeons and dragons) players finished the dungeon playing continuously for 5 to 6 hours. he players won experience and entertainment. In the end of the season all of them leveled up and had an exciting plot twist. Some of the players almost die and if you don't know if you die in dungeons and dragons you are not allowed to play any further. The dungeon was hard for the players they needed to face enemy like the big blue blob and Braum while also avoiding the traps that where there. The players might be out of the dungeon but the fight is not done jet.

3rd grade's Chocolate Factory

This year chocolate party had some good things, some not so good things, some new things and chocolate! This year was a overall a good party. The good part is that there was more than they could eat, and the 3rd graders couldn't have been happier. The parents ate the chocolate with their children and read some stories made by them. There were all sorts of chocolate including Pirulin, Capitas, Susy Cookies, cupcakes and even a chocolate fountain. Many teachers came to celebrate along with the children's parents. The children, parents and teachers had fun!   

This is a game changer

The Board games club was different since the club is now focusing in roleplay like D&D (dungeons and dragons) . The club had its first roleplay session on Monday, October 19, 2015 and everybody had fun. Today's activity was creating a character that they are going to use on the next club meeting. This may seem like something that would take only 20 to 30 minutes to do, but from the character stats they had a three hand full! They had to decide a race, job and with dice make the characters points. Races varies from elves to hobbits. It seemed as if it was a Lord of the Rings parade! The jobs varies and each person had something different. Depending on what you choose you could be a rouge that is kind of and stealth warrior, or a druid that can summon animals and interact with the earth. This board games are being every time more and exciting and interactive. You can come whenever you want from 3:30 to 5:00.        

EBV Goes for the Olympics

On Thursday September 11 Mr.Gonzales opened the Elementary Math Club at Escuela Bella Vista, welcoming elementary students to boost their math abilities to be prepared for the Math Olympics. 

Since the beginning the math club has been welcoming many kids ready to learn and reinforce their skills and thinking in math. On the first day, students started meeting those expectations; about 20 students went and they were ready to start practicing. In the club they practiced with old math olympics tests’ to see how it will be, like the problems and level of difficulty required. Their objective is set and trying to be archived so everything that is left is to focus and learn.The most important thing is that the Elementary Math Club has their target set and won't stop training until they reach it.

Basketball without students

At EBV Mr.Estrada started the  Parents and Teachers’ basketball practice on September 9, bringing together more people in the EBV community.

     Like expected from Mr.Estrada a favorable number of parents made it to the first day; specially from lower grades. Also many teachers went and they ended up being about 12 adults. As seen from the practice everyone was having a good time and enjoying the practice and new friends and teachers they got to meet and know a little more about them. Now they are looking foward to make more of these fun nights to have a good time.

Do you have enough luck to win?

PTSA organized the first bingo night of the year which everyone enjoyed while PTSA kept saving for other events! All you had to do is have luck for the night and when you had the chance yell  “Bingo!” before someone else and you got to win prizes. This game was a very popular past years but this year not that much, still kids and adults had a great time.This event was localized at the auditorium on Friday, September 24.

The luck in this night was really evened out because different people won.They received prizes such as weights for kitchen,speakers, coupons for Salvador, bracelets, and others. This night was fun and great for whoever went. Based on the fact that not that many people went, others had more chances to say “Bingo”  but when others received gifts and not themselves kids started booing because they wanted the gifts. Winning gifts was easy but, it all depended on your luck for the night...

System Improvement In Bake Sale

Could this year bake sale be the smallest so far? With only 4 different types of food in stack with Susy’s Cookies, Tequenos, Capitas and sodas like Frescolita, Coca Cola and Hit. This year's the bake sale had a new system in which you get a ticket and the ticket can be changed for food. This system was more organized. Like last year the bake sale is taking advantage of the new location by putting the sale there. This new location makes it easier to distribute food and makes the space less cramp. Overall this bake sale was average with higher number of wanted objects.

Trip Of Wonders

The Orlando trip for the 5th graders is coming closer. Ms. Gomez, elementary principal, assured that this year there will be no surprises like last year and they will go in February, not in April. “February is the most ideal time since there is less rain and less people” said Ms. Gomez. “This is the students first act of independence and these trips help them by applying the skill they learn as of now to the real world” said Ms. Majerus. Ms Gomez presented the presentation of Orlando trip in the auditorium to inform parents about it. The trips itself is something magical because it's going to Orlando and having fun with your friends while you learn. There are multiple activities like the Animal Kingdom where they learn about the student survival skills and Nouba, one of the main attractions, it's a circus where you get to see an incredible show then you get to see behind the scenes. The reason that the group goes to the circus is to learn about teamwork and how we all need help no matter how good we are. This year the cost of the trip and hotel have decreased by around 100 dollars each. “Disney has everything for all ages and going there teach them self control” said Ms.Cutler because she thinks that Disney is a good learning for all ages.

New clubs in EBV

If you are thinking of moving to Japan or kill two hours in a Monday there are two new clubs at EBV. The Japanese Club from Thursdays 3:30 - 5:30. Only 15 student were allowed to enter. There you can have fun learning how to talk and write in Japanese and you also learn about the culture of Japan. But don't worry, it’s not a history lesson. Japan is a really weird but interesting country.

Board games clubs are every Monday from 3:30 to 5:30. The first 6 to come to the library get to play some awesome games, no signup. If you just want to see what this club is all about, you can just come right after the bell rings and if you get there fast enough you can play one of a variety of board games Mr. Diaz has on his shelf from group games like Zombicide to Every- Person- For- himself/herself kind of game like Monopoly and Civilization. It is a fun and exciting experience that you should come to see. 

MUN: Fight for what you believe in.

“Its where you go to debate things that matter and find solution”. Its Valeria Sanchez’s personal definition of MUN. MUN or Model of the United Nations real definition is: an initiative taken by schools worldwide to try to incorporate the functions of the United Nations into the students lives. MUN has five different committees that are divided in two groups. Rookies committees that are recommended for 9th and 10th grade and Veteran committees that are recommended for 10th and above. The different committees are: United Nations Environment Program, Human Rights Council, Economic and Social Council Plenary, General Assembly, Security Council according to http://munebv.weebly.com/. “This is a community. You travel make friends and it's is good way to find yourself” is another thing miss Ms. Sanchez told us in our interview. She said “This is for people who like to fight and debate”. Her favorite thing about MUN is “watching people showing interest in something and fight for what they believe in”. She started running her position as student representative because “there was nobody who wanted the part and I always asked for it and shown interest”.  

     

  

Sweet Begining to School

On Friday August 28th The PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) decided to do the first fundraising of the year. Students were very excited about the “Bake Sale” because they got to eat some things that they don't taste frequently. This event was located next to the old cafeteria in the tunnel towards the field.

Everything in the bake sale went great because the students were behaving a lot better that the past years. Also everything was organized by individual sections for each food or drink. Between the things they had sold in the past years some were new. For example: they added arepas and hotdogs to what they sold. In total they sold a lot of things like: Capitas, tequeños, hot dogs, arepas, and papelon con limon. Even so students were stunned by the price increase, because of the economic situation and constant increment of the prices in the country. PTSA did not had the enough sales and consequently did not receive the amount of money that they were hoping for, so they are looking forward to raise more funds next time.

Greetings to a New Beginning in School

On September 1st was the “Back to school night” with all parents and teachers from the whole school! It ended up great even when some parents were in a rush going from teacher to teacher. This event ended up being the most crowded of back to school activities. Like in the previous years parents got the opportunity to hear what the teachers are going to do throughout the year and the new rules of the school.

As always “Back to school night” started with the speech from the principal about the school rules and what they expected this year. After parents had received a list of the student’s classes and teachers, parents could go to each class individually. There they received an explanation of the class, what teachers are going to teach and what they have been doing to start the year, the way students are going to be graded for the evaluations and what is expected from the kids . However the Elementary Parents went to the class that their daughter/son was in and got information about the subjects that all the students have for the year, and also the learning standards they are trying to achieve.

Although, some parents were very frustrated because if they have more than two kids, they had to be in a rush between different classes and teachers. That's why in the halls they commented that they preferred this event to be split in two, a day for Elementary and other day for Middle and High School, or at least start at a earlier time. In spite of that, Back to School Night was a big success because there were amazing activities to help old and new parents to get in touch with the EBV teachers and welcoming them to EBV!
