Stressful Friday Morning

On October 16, EBV held one of the most stressful events for students and teachers, the Parent – Teacher Conferences. Starting at 7:00 am and ending at 2:30 pm, parents came in and out of the auditorium with their kid’s report cards. Some very satisfied and pleased, while others were not so happy. Both high school, middle school, and elementary parents attended the event at Escuela Bella Vista. In the entrance of the school, NHS and NJHS members were selling tickets for the Charity Run. Most of the teachers were present at the conferences and were talking profoundly to the parents. How did you do on first quarter?

Write! Write! Write!

Only 5,000 words to go! This year, the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th graders have to participate in NanoWrimo! NanoWrimo is a project in which someone has to write a novel and the novel has to have a certain number of words. 6th grade has to write 6,000 words, 7th grade has to write 7,000 words, and 8th and 9th have to write 10,000 words by November 25. This year not only the students have to write a novel, but they also have to complete a workbook about their story so they are more planned and focused on what they have to do. NanoWrimo’s official website (nanowrimo.org) states the history of NanoWrimo and it says that it started in July of 1999 and only 21 people participated. NanoWrimo has gotten popular over the years because it encourages students and people that everyone can write a novel no matter what. Good luck to the writers!

Back To Basics

The eighth grade math class, taught by Mr. Thompson, helped the third graders with math. They went to Mr. Gonzalez’s room to help the younger students with math. They taught them, assisted, and had a wonderful time! This was also very helpful because each 8th grader helped an individual third grader; meaning that there was a lot of time dedicated to each student so that everyone could learn at their own pace.
The third graders reviewed numbers and place values. At the end, they were pleased and very excited! As a result, Mr. Thompson said, “I will try to book us a visit to the third grade room once a month to help the students and their learning”.

Ready…Set...Help!

As every year, on Saturday October 17, 2015, the National Honor Society members organized the Charity Run.
The National Honor Society members organized this event to help raise funds for the children with Huntington’s disease. According to MayoClinic, it is “An inherited disease that causes the progressive breakdown (degeneration) of nerve cells in the brain”.
The tickets for this event were sold during Parent Teacher Conferences and during the event that took place in La Vereda del Lago at 7 am. During the charity event, the participants had the choice of running or walking. However, something very important was that the person could either run or walk, and could not do both.

Many people commented that the Charity Run was a complete blast and that they are really happy they could do something for a good cause, in this case the Huntington’s disease.

Light up The Bunsen Burner

In the 8th grade science class, they are in for a surprise as there is a small flame in the room that left kids petrified

It was just another typical day in Ms. Possamai’s room where the 8th grade class was about to try out another typical science project. They were just learning about the rock cycle but what they didn’t know was that their projects would soon ignite. The 8th graders were working with crayons, heat and aluminium in what they thought was a safe project. They were trying to see the three different types of rocks yet the results were not as expected. In one of the first tries, there was smoke, in some other tries there was more smoke and finally fire. It was a small flame yet most kids were petrified. After the flame, the class was filled with smoke yet nobody got hurt.

A 2 Child per Couple Upgrade in China

Chinese one-child policy abolished in fear of graying of population.

The abolishment of “one child policy” in China was officially confirmed. This was done in fear of a “graying society” says the Washington Post. The population was mostly based of elderly people and that was a little bit of a problem. This decision was made after a long meeting with the Communist Party leadership were the discussion involved labor shortages and rapid rising number of elders straining the future economy of the country. The Chinese introduced the infamous rule in the 1980’s; it led to huge fines along with forced sterilizations and abortions. China’s sex ratio changed massively as people tended to abort girls making the ratio of women to men completely unproportional. According to the Washington Post a student from The University of California named Wang Feng warned the country that the “one-child policy would cause a demographic precipice” questioning the legitimacy of the Communist Party. Although it is final that couple’s in China will be allowed to have two children it is unknown when the new policy will officially take action. This can decrease the number of abortions and sterilizations of women and can also level the population.

Bye, Bye Flags, Bye, Bye Wal-Mart

Mississippi man bombs local Wal-Mart because they won’t sell confederate flags.
According to The Washington Post a longtime fanatic of the Mississippi State flag threw an explosive into the local Wal-Mart on Sunday morning because they refused to sell the confederate battle flag. He is named Marshall. E. Leonard, is 61 years old and comes from Tupelo, Mississippi. He was arrested and was charged on Tuesday for his crimes of “detonating on explosive” inside said store. Aguirre told the press “He’s a strong supporter of keeping that flag flying”. In a way the man wants to keep history alive and detonating Wal-Mart was his way of doing that. This flag is to support racist groups and it was to be taken out of display for those specific reasons. The Washington Post says this was due to the shooting in a black church in Charleston. This became a controversial topic as the alleged shooter was posing with the flag in a photo. The question is was it really necessary to blow the place up “to keep a flag flying”?

Angry business

Angry birds is an amazingly addictive game. It is one of those games that you have to have downloaded. However, behind the scenes things aren't going so well. There has been recent job cuts and so far 216 people have been affected. It is estimated that 260 more will be affected. Every single department has sadly lost a member, except for the exception of those working on the angry birds movie. So, Rovio has seen better times.

The NaNoWrimo Effect

For more than 2 years, NaNoWrimo has been a part of our school. This year however, the rules have changed. Six and Seventh graders are also supposed to participate for their English grade. After interviewing some six and seventh grade students, they expressed their own opinion on NaNoWriMo in an unexpected way.  The following negative comments were said by them:
“I haven’t even started my story, I don’t know what to write about, I think this is just another way to make my stress even higher than it already is”. However some of the students have seen this project from a more positive point of view:

“If we can handle International Day, I think that we can handle six thousand words, I think this could be an interesting way to expand my creative writing skills and become a better writer.” The fact of the matter is that, if you were assigned this project , Your Creative Writing skills are guaranteed to expand to a whole other level. We wish you the best of luck and may the writing be in your favor!

The “Mad Scientist Party” begun when Mr.Anderson and Ms. Majerus trying to make something fun for Halloween but not just a typically party so,  thought of a party that Ms. Majerus had done before and noticed the kids have loved. They then decided to make it in E.B.V.! It started last year but it only lasted forty five minutes so this year they decided to make it bigger and better with new ideas from past experiences! For the party Ms. Lewensky and Mr.Anderson came up with 6 experiments for the students and made a booklet that they filled out while making them think about the scientific process. In total they had 6 experiments: 3 experiments in one of the fourth grade classrooms, three in the other. And in the last room, they had all special treats to celebrate the end of the event on October. The most popular experiments were: walking on eggs without them breaking them, the milk/soap/food coloring which created great color displays, microwaving a bar of soap which grew depending the time it was in the microwave and the mint and soda experiment which made the soda bottles blow up! The event was a great success, it lasted one hour and forty five minutes, and everyone enjoyed it with a  smile. The “Mad Scientist Party has just turned into a new tradition in fourth grade!

Trick or Treat E.B.V!

Escuela Bella vista Organized a Halloween party on October 30 at the school. There were different games made by E.B.V teachers and students! Treats that were like a magnet to kids! And a haunted house to which many people ended up frightened!

Halloween was celebrated at Escuela Bella Vista with a ton of costumes and a ton of people having a great time! With so many treats kids were running all over the place trying to win as much candy as possible! They even repeated some games to get more candy and rewards! The most popular thing was the haunted house which had a lot of people waiting in the line because only three people were allowed in each time. But the eleventh graders got to make the line fast and the haunted house really scary. It even made some kids cry! Most people that went said that it was a lot better than the past years so more people enjoyed the party more this time. In conclusion the Halloween party was great and EBV is ready for the next Halloween!

Vanas volleyball

Vanas volleyball was hard for the EBV school team. They won second place in the tournament after the doggers (Valencia). The girls won last place but they tried their best and played well. Some said that some good players were left behind thanks to the “if you miss one class you're out of the team” police. This policy was applied since there was really little time and one class was missing around 1/10 of the class. But the team stilled pulled the winning against other schools like ECA. The girls in the other hand lost most games. This year we might have come empty handed but the next year EBV will come out first.

Dungeon complete

Last week the D&D ( dungeons and dragons) players finished the dungeon playing continuously for 5 to 6 hours. he players won experience and entertainment. In the end of the season all of them leveled up and had an exciting plot twist. The dungeon was hard for the players they needed to face enemy like the big blue blob and Braum while also avoiding the traps that where there. The players might be out of the dungeon but the fight is not done jet.

Willy the Puppet

Some of the 7th grade boys are in big trouble as they get involved in a misunderstanding with a high school girl’s art project!

Chaos wreaks in Ms.Teran’s room as some of the 7th graders are in big trouble. These kids were just having some fun in art, when they found a little stuffed puppet-like art project. The 7th graders were unaware that it belonged to someone so they grabbed and played with the little stuffed doll. The owner of the project later flipped as she sees multiple pictures of her project from one of her 7th grade friend’s phone. When the kids find out it belonged to someone they immediately left it where they found it, yet they were still held accountable for their actions. Three kids from the 7th grade class had to clean the art class for three days during lunch. The kids were just having some fun but they shouldn’t have grabbed the project in the first place.
