Dramatic Finish

This year's VANAS was one of the best ones that EBV has ever hosted. Although, a lot of teams were missing, we were lucky that the middle school teams offered themselves to participate in both of the tournaments. This High School squad was managed by Jeremy Gleason, Suzann Ingram, and Michael Brougham. Both of the finals had a dramatic ending, on the soccer tournament, the game ended in penalty kicks. On the basketball tournament, the game ended in a really tight and disputed overtime. Although there was not school on Friday, a lot of the EBV community went on their free time to support both of the EBV teams. But, unfortunately EBV did not get to win one of neither tournaments. At the end all of the EBV community had a really good time watching their teams compete against teams from schools around Venezuela. We hope to win in the upcoming middle school soccer VANAS, that would take place in Valencia, Venezuela.

Washington, D.C.: Mission Impossible

Washington D.C., the capital of the United States, is a very historical and meaningful place because it is home to many important monuments such as the Capitol Building and the Arlington National Cemetery. Each year, the 9th grade students from Escuela Bella Vista take a trip to Washington DC to learn about the history of the United States. On April 3rd, the 9th graders took off to Miami, but their flight got delayed and they missed their connection to Washington D.C. After figuring out what they were going to do, they were divided into different groups. Some students went to Orlando, while others went to Alabama, and others stayed in Miami. In the end, everyone was able to arrive to Washington and they had a very fun trip. “It was all worth it, even going to Birmingham, Alabama!” stated Lara Garcia, a 9th grade student. The 9th graders enjoyed their short trip to the maximum and ate their Georgetown cupcakes happily!

A Cold Friday

        Out of all of the places in the world, we live on one of the “warmest” countries in the world, as stated by https://www.currentresults.com/Weather-Extremes/hottest-cities-in-the-world.php (a website that has the normal temperatures, sunshine, rainfall for many places all over the world). Therefore, High School STUCO planned a thoughtful Cepillado Sale on Friday, April 15. It took place outside of the Cafeteria, in front of the field. The HS Stuco representatives had a cart that sold two cepillado flavors, lemon and kolita; “the best flavors”, said fellow 8th grader, Marcella Finol. The cost for one cup of cepillado was 250 bsf. “It was a very interactive, well-organized event organized by Student Council because it was something creative and unique”, exclaimed 6th grader, Pamela Pineda.

A time machine accident that was a bit, too... Powerful

Quantum Break is action-adventure Science-Fiction Game with great graphics, a great story, and control over time!

You play as the main character Jack Joyce. You are trying to stop a man named Paul Serene, from causing the end of time after a time machine accident. This accident made you have manipulation over time, which makes this third person shooter to come with a variety of face-kicking powers that just makes you feel all the more awesome. IGN says “Frequent stutters in time create eye-popping dioramas out of the destruction around you."

You can use many different weapons and powers that will stop an opponent in their tracks. Literally. You can temporarily stop time allowing you to escape a tight situation. Time Blast is basically a massive plasma shot of destruction that makes bullets turn around, therefore the shooter shoots himself. Time Rush makes you teleport right in front of an enemy for a strategic takedown. You also have a time shield, which basically stops any bullets from going through the shield, and finally we have time dodge. TIme Dodge allows you to teleport to a side and avoid an attack.

Besides those amazing powers, this game comes with a great storyline that I won't spoil. But it fits with the game and it has the funny moments so you don't completely die of the deadly disease called NO HUMOR.

Pokemons 6th Generation

Pokemon X and Y are the two newest versions of pokemon that have been made. The mascot legendaries, Yveltal and Xerneas, and two very strong new additions, and with the new mega evolutions, these were great games. Disclaimer, I will not be talking about the remakes of Emerald, Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby. So, anyone who has understood anything I have just said, please continue, and for those who don't, may Arseus be with you.

Pokemon X and Y is a phenomenal game. Better graphics make it more appealing to almost everything, and the change to the 3DS makes the game, well, 3D! The move animations seem so much better than before, and something else that everyone had wanted. You can customize your character! This has been requested for a long time and now you can. One other Big change was the town's. In old versions, each town was limited to a couple of houses, but now, there are entire cities.

One of the biggest additions to the game is Mega evolution. Pokemon previously thought to not be able to evolve can now evolve again. This added a whole new variety to the game and pokemon who were before never used, are now able to be used. Pokemon who mega evolve just look awesome, cooler, or in mega Slowbro's case, dumber. IGN also says that “Gamefreak really outdid themselves this time” and “A lot of smart decisions went into X and Y”.

All in all, best pokemon game, EVER!

The Special One

This year's Copa America will be one of the most especial tournament ever disputed.

The Copa America Centenario is a scheduled international men's association football tournament to be held in the United States in 2016. It basically consists of 16 teams and 10 host cities. This is the first Copa America hosted outside of South America, making it a special tournament in comparison to others. The tournament is taking place between June 3rd and June 26th, making it a total of 23 days. The teams that are participating in this year's Copa America are: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile,Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela, United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Haiti, and Panama. The expected teams to win are Chile and Argentina, mostly because they were the both finalists last year. We hope to have a really good and enjoying tournament.

Public Speaking is Just One of their Qualities

Passionate, young, and imaginative; everything you need to make a Ted Talk truly appreciative! Ted Talk is a club with many creative participants who shared their ideas of specific topics. On March 11, at the Escuela Bella Vista Auditorium a group of 8 students talked about different, intriguing themes that had to do with their lives and how you can get through hard things in life by using unique tactics. Ted Talks are not only a way to talk about something that dramatically impacted your life, but a way to express your point of view on an specific idea. Paulina Maurovich, a 12th grader, focused on gender equality and how she believed women were not treated like men. Many students believed her Ted Talk was a success, for example, Marcella Finol, an eighth grade student stated that: “Her Ted Talk not only focused on her daily life, but on the daily struggle of many women.” This means that many people from the EBV community can relate themselves with Ted Talks.

Beware, this is only the first Ted Talk and there are many more creative ones to come! In this inspirational talk there were many topics completely different. For example, Elena Mangialardo, a 12th grader, talked about how she believes disabled people should have more chances and opportunities in life. Rosie Abuin, a 7th grader confessed that “This was a very important topic that showed how people with discapacities are the same as people who don’t have discapacities.” Another significant topic that many people can relate to is Sabrina Mangialardo’s, a senior. It talked about how one great idea can lead into something that can change your life completely. Just be creating a fun idea, her twin sister: Elena Mangialardo and herself own a “great shop called The Rack”, as said by Pamela Pineda, in Maracaibo with 15.4k followers on Instagram.

Another member of Ted Talk was Nicole Castellano, and she talked about mindfulness. According to Psychology Today (www.psychologytoday.com/basics/mindfulness), mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present. Alesia Sanchez, which attended the Ted Talk, said that “I enjoyed very much the Ted Talk because it was very creative. Nicole Castellano gave very good tips about relaxation and stress because her topic was mindfulness.” The Ted Talk was a huge success because it inspired students to express their ideas and opinions through Ted Talks and the whole event encourage students to join the Ted Talk Club next year.
